For more than 25 years, Minnesota Budget Project has focused our work on the challenges and opportunities impacting everyday Minnesotans, as well as public policy solutions to move Minnesota toward being a more equitable and just state to live in. The key issue areas we work in are: Budget, Child Care, Federal Issues, Health Care, Income & Inclusive Economy, and Taxes.
Child Care
Our research and advocacy focuses on policy solutions to make affordable, dependable child care available to Minnesota families so that children can thrive, parents can get to work or school, and employers can hire and retain the workers they need.
Federal Issues
Our federal research and advocacy work focuses on issues important to Minnesota workers and families, including analysis of federal tax and budget proposals and outcomes, with an emphasis on how those proposals impact Minnesota.
Health Care
We pursue our health care research and advocacy from an understanding that affordable, quality health care is essential for Minnesotans’ ability to thrive, and access to it shouldn’t depend on someone’s paycheck or address.
Income and Inclusive Economy
Our work includes analysis of economic trends to understand who’s faring well in our economy and who is being left behind, the contributions that immigrants make to Minnesota’s economy and communities, and economic policies that create a more inclusive economy for all.
Minnesota Budget
The Minnesota Budget Project has more than 25 years of expertise in understanding and analyzing Minnesota’s state budget, trends, and processes. We provide analysis on budget proposals active in the policy debate, the state of Minnesota’s current budget and economic outlook, and state budget decision-making practices.
Minnesota Taxes
Taxes are one way we care for one another in Minnesota. Our tax research and advocacy focuses on expanding economic well-being through income-boosting tax credits, and creating a progressive tax system that raises the resources to pay for the public services all of us benefit from.
