MNsure opens a new world

August 19, 2013

Nearly 1 million Minnesotans will gain access to affordable, quality health insurance beginning next year, thanks to MNsure, the new online marketplace where individuals and small businesses can shop for and enroll in health insurance.

According to our new brief, MNsure: A New World of Opportunities for Affordable Health Insurance Starts in 2014, Minnesotans who are now going without health insurance or who have inadequate coverage for themselves and their families will have better choices starting in 2014.

Our brief covers the continuum of options available for Minnesotans on MNsure, including public health insurance and federal assistance to help pay for private insurance.

MNsure and other reforms in the federal health care reform law are expected to reduce the number of Minnesotans without health insurance from 500,000 to 200,000 by 2016.

People who have health insurance are more likely to promptly seek medical attention and pay their health care bills. That leads to a healthier population and a more efficient health care system.

When MNsure coverage begins on January 1, 2014, thousands of uninsured or underinsured Minnesotans will have greater peace of mind knowing they have better and more health insurance choices for themselves and their families.
